Science Mentorship in Action: The Reactivity Series

There is no better way to learn than by teaching! Today, our lab was a hub of cross-year collaboration as Year 9 and IGCSE 2 students joined forces to explore the Reactivity Series. 

The Year 9s delved deep into metal displacement reactions, testing the "strength" of Copper, Iron, Zinc, and Magnesium against their respective sulfate salts.

The atmosphere was electric because they weren't alone—our IGCSE 2 students volunteered to act as lab mentors! This was a fantastic "win-win" session:

For Year 9, they benefited from the invaluable knowledge and expert tips of their older peers, which helped them predict which metal would "displace" another.

For IGCSE 2: It was the perfect revision opportunity! Explaining the theory of electron loss and the displacement rules helped solidify their understanding just in time for their upcoming Cambridge exams.
