Year 4 IPC - Material World

Is an egg a solid or a liquid? The answer is both!

(When it is in the shell, it is a solid, but when the shell is cracked, it is liquid)

Year 4’s first IPC unit this year is ‘Material World’, and we have been looking at the various materials, both natural and man-made, that we use every day. The students were amazed to find out that China is the largest producer in the world of many of these materials!

We conducted some experiments to test the properties of materials. We tested different shopping bags for strength, and we tested different cups for heat insulation. We also tested items in the classroom to see if they were magnetic. Students learnt how to write up an experiment, giving a prediction at the start, and then testing to see the results. These were sometimes surprising!
